A computer motherboard is really just a special kind of PCB. Is this correct?

Certainly, a PCB is an essential component to a motherboard, or for that matter any board, because that’s how we make boards. But the whole point of a motherboard is that it has sockets, for the CPU, for RAM, for graphics cards, or even just USB ports and the like.

A PCB without the necessary connections is not a motherboard, just a component of one.
